Subrata Roy Sahara acquires the iconic hotel, Grosvenor House in London

Sahara India Pariwar, the conglomerate run by Indian billionaire Subrata Roy, is the latest Indian company to buy a landmark business in Britain by acquiring the historic Grosvenor House Hotel that was once home to the Duke of Westminster and frequented by royalty, celebrities and business leaders since its re-opening in 1929. Sahara India Pariwar announced that it has acquired the most iconic hotel, Grosvenor House, from the Royal Bank of Scotland group.

Grosvenor House, located in the prestigious Parklane in Mayfair, London, is an iconic landmark with 420 rooms, 74 suites, 27 meeting rooms, providing an unbelievable 4,000 sq. meters of high quality space and also houses Europe’s largest and most famous hotel banqueting space, the Great Room. The eight banquet halls in Grosvenor House can provide accommodation to 4,500 people. The Hotel offers London’s largest and Europe’s second largest banqueting space called the Great Room. Sahara has advance plans to make Grosvenor House a most sought after destination of London. As part of its plan, Sahara will add a number of restaurants and other facilities. It will also include an Indian restaurant -- Namak, a grand bar, a spacious night club, a large business centre, a swimming pool, a grand spa with parlours in addition to other attractions.

Acquirement of Grosvenor House presents a unique opportunity for Sahara India Pariwar to establish its foot-hold in the international luxury hotel market after having successfully proved its expertise in hospitality sector in India through Hotel Sahara Star and its luxurious 10,600 acres Aamby Valley City. Subrata Roy, chairman of Sahara Group is extremely happy to announce Grosvenor House joining the Sahara family. They have purchased it for 470 million pounds. The hotel is now owned by Aamby Valley Ltd and this acquisition is a part of the major expansion plans of the group.
